Alternative Methods
Convert by Email
Send a document by email and receive an accessible HTML version back
How it works
You can convert documents to accessible HTML without logging in to the website. Just send an email with your file attached, and we'll email back the accessible version.
- Compose a new email to convert@pdf-html.com
- Attach your PDF
- Send the email
You'll receive two emails back:
- A confirmation that we received your file and are processing it
- The result with the accessible HTML file attached, along with a credit breakdown
Replies come from convert@theaccessible.org.
Supported file types
| Format | Extensions |
|---|---|
.pdf | |
| Microsoft Word | .docx |
| HTML | .html, .htm |
Other file types (images, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, etc.) are not supported. If you send an unsupported file, you'll get an email explaining which formats work.
File size limit
The maximum attachment size is 25 MB. If your file is larger, use the web converter at theaccessible.org instead.
One file per email
Send one document per email. If you attach multiple files, only the first supported file will be processed. To convert multiple documents, send each one in a separate email.
Credits
Converting documents uses credits from your account:
| Page type | Cost |
|---|---|
| Standard pages (text, images, simple lists) | 1 credit per page |
| Complex pages (equations, tables, forms, multi-column layouts) | 2 credits per page |
If a document has a mix of standard and complex pages, each page is charged at its own rate. You'll see the full breakdown in the result email.
Free tier
Every account gets 10 free lifetime pages. Complex pages count as 2 from your free allocation.
What if I don't have enough credits?
If your document requires more credits than you have, you'll receive an email with your current balance and a link to purchase more. No credits are charged when this happens.
Getting started
You need an account to use the email service. If you send an email from an unregistered address, you'll receive a reply with a link to sign up.
- Register at theaccessible.org/register
- Send your first document — your first 10 pages are free
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take?
Most documents are processed within a few minutes. Larger or more complex documents may take longer.
What does the accessible HTML file look like?
It's a self-contained HTML file you can open in any web browser. It preserves the content and structure of your original document with proper headings, alt text for images, and other accessibility features.
I didn't get a reply.
Check your spam or junk folder. Replies come from convert@theaccessible.org — add that address to your contacts or safe senders list. If you still don't see a response after 10 minutes, try sending again or contact support.
Can I reply to the result email to convert another file?
No. Start a new email to convert@pdf-html.com each time.
Can I send multiple files in one email?
Only the first supported file will be processed. Send one document per email.
Does the subject line matter?
No. You can leave it blank or write anything — the service only looks at the attachment.
